Foreigners wanting to get off the beaten path/live like a local vs. locals annoyed that tourists are everywhere. What are your thoughts?

I understand the desire to go to a new country not to be surrounded by your own countrymen. But if everyone flocks to places “off the beaten path” then those places will become the beaten path. I’d love to hear your thoughts about this.
