Role Overview

Mercor is seeking Physics PhD holders to contribute to a short-term pilot project with a leading frontier AI laboratory. The project focuses on advancing reasoning methods to strengthen AI systems’ ability to solve complex problems. Selected experts will collaborate with researchers to validate, refine, and expand AI capabilities in physics. This pilot engagement will run for a few days (< 1 week), with the possibility of scaling into a longer-term program.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate physics reasoning and proofs
• Author, refine, and validate technical content in advanced physics domains
• Design and assess research-style questions and benchmarks
• Provide structured feedback to support improvements in AI scientific reasoning

Ideal Qualifications

• PhD in Physics from a top 20 institution (required)
• Strong preference for individuals currently in or recently active in academia and/or research
• Ability to clearly articulate reasoning in formal and precise terms

More About the Opportunity

• Pilot duration: <1 week, with potential for expansion into a larger program
• Remote and asynchronous — contractors set their own hours
• Flexible engagement: project tasks available up to 40 hrs/week (minimum ~5 hrs recommended)
• Small, select cohort of physicists working in close collaboration with AI researchers

Compensation & Contract Terms

• $100-150/hour, including compensation for onboarding time
• Bonus structures built in for high-quality inputs
• Independent contractor arrangement
• Payments for services rendered issued via Stripe Connect
