We are a design-first, home furnishing company focusing on the habits of urban dwellers and first time home buyers. We pride ourselves on the best in class customer happiness, providing the highest possible quality products that are affordable for the majority and assembly that isn’t dreadful.

As a people-first company, we understood from day one the importance of being fully distributed. We encourage everyone to work in a whichever manner that helps them perform their best.

About the Role

You’ll be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of transportation, warehousing, and order fulfillment for Nathan James. You’ll help the operations team by managing relationships with all logistics 3rd parties, assisting with high level planning, continual improvement implementation, and creative cost reduction ideation/execution. As the driver of the Logistics Division, you will also have ample opportunity to carve out your own passion projects related to operational improvements and cost reductions.

A deep understanding of operations management, particularly focused on inbound and outbound modeling, is a pre-requisite for succeeding in this role. Managing both an internal team and external partners also requires being able to provide support from multiple perspectives regarding any aspect related to operational processes. Since this division and these processes are susceptible to continual change, the ideal candidate has the unique ability to quickly learn and teach these procedures.

During training, you’ll be expected to be proactive in your process and learn quickly. Once fully up-to-speed (2-3 months), you’ll have a complete understanding and ownership of day-to-day operations, provide managerial guidance to members of the Logistics Division, have the ability to monitor and report on Logistics KPIs, as well as, be able to verify and approve all invoices related to the Logistics Division.

About Us

We have a rhythm to our work and a very low turnover rate — we have yet to have a single team member opt-out. Your voice matters to us. We make change from fresh perspectives and appreciate new viewpoints, so you should feel comfortable speaking up about your values and goals.

We’re ready for the ongoing work that goes into building an inclusive, supportive place for you to do the best work of your career. Our values, workplace and our benefits are designed to support a sustainable, healthy relationship with your work. Our operating values provide the framework we use in building a healthy, resilient organization.

You can expect a mindful onboarding process with ramp-up and time to learn. You can expect a team that listens, and to be heard. You can expect to give and provide direct feedback. You can expect to work with good people. You can expect to be counted on. You can expect to do your best work and build a career here.

About You

We’re looking for someone with the ability to work in an agile environment by being proactive, flexible, efficient and task-focused. This means being a great problem-solver and having the technical strengths to find solutions and correct unforeseen issues extremely quickly. You should be able to constantly juggle daily decisions that directly impact the divisional KPIs, planning of logistics activity and growing volumes for 6-12 months out, as well as re-enforcing/implementing procedures to standardize divisional activity. You have a strong team mentality and ability to not only do what is asked, but to do what you believe is needed.

You can attribute most of what you love about the projects and tasks you work on to having an element of problem solving. You have a pragmatic mind that enables you to be decisive, but you understand the theoretical practices of optimizing supply chains and how important it is to continue to implement where feasible. Logistics has always been an area of interest to you because you enjoy the challenges involved with continually fine-tuning processes and you welcome new challenges that seem to occur in a field with so many moving parts. It excites you to be a leader in the operational backbone of a company continuing to reach new heights every year.

We would like to see at a minimum of three years’ experience in designing operational systems, managing 3PL/warehouses, handling order fulfillment, and managing others in the logistics field. Advanced ability in excel, database management, project management, time management and the ability to manage people is essential to success in this role. The ideal candidate would also have a degree in a quantitative discipline with extensive education and/or experience within the logistics field of a primarily e-commerce company.

For this role, please note that our current 3PL operates between 7am-4pm PST. While it will not be required for you to work during these hours, there will be days where orders will need to be monitored and troubleshot throughout operating hours to ensure on-time delivery.

This is a remote role, since we are a remote/fully distributed company! You’re free to work where you work best, anywhere in the world: home office, coworking space, or coffee shops. You should be comfortable working remotely, that hinges on effective writing, self-discipline, and comfort with open communication.

We’re accepting applications until 05/12/2020 00:00:00 UTC.

Next: We expect to take a few days to review all applications.

You’ll hear from us by 5/21/2020 about advancement to an introductory call. If we both find the fit to right, then we would proceed to a work sample, then on to a interview.
