Thorn is a non-profit focused on building technology to defend children from sexual abuse. Working at Thorn gives you the opportunity to apply your skills, expertise, and passions to directly impact the lives of vulnerable and abused children. Our staff solves dynamic, quickly evolving problems with our network of partners from tech companies, NGOs, and law enforcement agencies. If you are able to bring clarity to complexity and lightness to heavy problems, you could be a great fit for our team.

Earlier this year, we took the stage at TED and shared our audacious goal of eliminating child sexual abuse material from the internet.

About the role:

As a UX Designer, you are keen to solve complex problems in an ever-changing environment. We work with investigators around the globe who identify some of the most vulnerable children in the hardest to find places. You’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact while collaborating with our other experts in design, research, software engineering, technical architecture, and product strategy.

What You’ll Do:

  • Conduct UX research across multiple products.
  • Leverage UX research insights to communicate your ideas visually.
  • Design concepts for interactions.
  • Understand and organize complexities, promoting modern interaction design patterns and best practices.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to build and test your user experiences.
  • Conduct usability testing.

Skills We’re Seeking:

  • You have a commitment to putting the children we serve at the center of everything you do.
  • Demonstrated excellence in interactive design, information architecture, and translating research into design decisions
  • Able to manage your own time on multiple projects, whether working independently or collaboratively with a team.
  • Proficient in design tools such as Sketch and Adobe products and prototyping tools such as InVision.
  • Experienced in Agile, lean, or other iterative product development approaches (design sprints, scrum, kanban).
  • Confident in presenting work and articulating user experience issues and concerns to team members and stakeholders.
  • You have the ability and interest to learn new design techniques and patterns quickly.
  • You communicate clearly, efficiently, and thoughtfully. We’re a highly-distributed team and written communication is crucial.

Thorn is a strong and flexible team because of the diverse backgrounds of our staff. This includes professional background, subject matter expertise, culture, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression, language, hobbies, etc. We strongly encourage women, minorities, and people from underrepresented backgrounds to apply. Your skills are needed here.
